What a thumbnail actually is
The thumbnail is the still image Pinterest shows for a video pin before you press play. It is a real JPG that Pinterest generates and stores, not a frame your browser grabs. Pasting the pin link here resolves that cover file and hands it to you at the largest size Pinterest serves. It is useful for a moodboard, a slide, a link preview, or simply knowing what a pin looks like without loading the video.
The thumbnail is smaller than the video itself — it is a cover image, not a still frame export. If you need a full-resolution still, download the video and grab a frame from it.

| Idea Pin | Multi-slide story pins | The slides Pinterest exposes publicly |
| Story pin | Legacy name for Idea Pins | Same as Idea Pins |

How it works
Three steps, and no account or app install. Everything runs in your browser.
01
Copy the pin link
Open the video on Pinterest, tap Share, then Copy link. Full pinterest.com links and short pin.it links both work.
02
Paste and resolve
We read the pin’s public data server-side and pick the best video source Pinterest exposes — usually 720p or 1080p.
03
Save the MP4
Hit Download MP4. The file is streamed straight to your device at its highest available quality, with no re-encoding and no watermark added.
