Question 1

Is this Pinterest video downloader free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It is completely free with no signup, no daily limit and no paid tier.

Question 2

Is it an online tool, or do I need to install an app?

Accepted Answer

No. The downloader runs entirely in your browser on desktop and mobile. There is no APK to sideload and no extension to install.

Question 3

Can I download Pinterest videos on iPhone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Open Pinterest in Safari, copy the pin link, paste it here and tap Download MP4. The file saves to your Files app or Downloads folder depending on your settings.

Question 4

What quality will the downloaded video be?

Accepted Answer

You get the highest-resolution file Pinterest serves for that pin — typically 720p or 1080p. If the pin only carries a smaller version, that is the ceiling; we never compress, downgrade or upscale it.

Question 5

Does it work with pin.it short links?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Pinterest’s app shares pin.it links by default, and they are expanded automatically on our server — no need to open the link and copy the full URL first.

Question 6

Is downloading Pinterest videos legal?

Accepted Answer

Downloading content you own or have permission to use is generally fine. Respect copyright and Pinterest’s terms, and get the creator’s consent before republishing anything.

Question 7

Why does a pin say it has no video?

Accepted Answer

Some pins are images, GIFs or idea pins without a downloadable video file. Private pins and pins that require login are also not accessible.

Question 8

Do you store the videos I download?

Accepted Answer

No. Video bytes stream through our server to your device and are not retained. We keep no download history and require no account.

Question 9

Can I download a pin if all I have is the link?

Accepted Answer

Yes — that is the whole input. Paste the pin URL (pinterest.com/pin/… or a pin.it short link) and the tool reads the file behind it. You never need to open Pinterest first.

Question 10

What is the difference from the video downloader?

Accepted Answer

Same engine and same output. This page is for when you specifically want an .mp4 file; every video Pinterest serves downloads as MP4 anyway.

Question 11

Does the MP4 keep the original audio?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The audio track comes through untouched — no muting, no re-encoding by us.

Question 12

Can I turn a Pinterest GIF into an MP4?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Pinterest already stores animated pins as looping MP4, so you get an MP4 rather than a .gif file.

Question 13

What is the highest resolution I can get?

Accepted Answer

The best tier Pinterest serves for that pin — commonly 720p or 1080p, and 4K only when the pin has a 4K source. We never upscale.

Question 14

Will the MP4 play on iPhone and Android?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It is a standard MP4 (H.264 + AAC) that plays in the Photos app, QuickTime, VLC and every major player.

Question 15

Do I need any converter software?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no app to install and no converter to run — the pin is turned into an MP4 on our side.

Question 16

Does converting re-encode the video?

Accepted Answer

No. Pinterest already stores video as MP4, so there is nothing to transcode — the file you get is the one Pinterest serves.

Question 17

Can I get an MP4 from a pin that is only a photo?

Accepted Answer

No — there is no video to convert. That pin resolves to its image file instead, which is the correct output for it.

Question 18

Why is the MP4 bigger than the GIF I expected?

Accepted Answer

It usually is not, but a full-length video pin is naturally larger than a short loop. Size follows the source, not the format.

Question 19

Can I edit the MP4 afterwards?

Accepted Answer

Yes. H.264 plus AAC in an MP4 is the combination every editor accepts, so it imports into CapCut, Premiere, Final Cut and iMovie directly.

Question 20

Can I get an MP4 from a Pinterest GIF?

Accepted Answer

Yes — and you usually should. Pinterest stores animations as MP4 in the first place, so that file is the original container, not a conversion of one.

Question 21

How large will the MP4 be?

Accepted Answer

It follows the source: a short 540p clip is a few megabytes, a full-length 720p video can be tens. The container itself adds almost nothing.

Question 22

Will the MP4 play on a TV or in a car?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes — H.264 with AAC is the most widely supported pair there is. If an older device refuses it, that device predates the standard rather than the file being wrong.

Question 23

Can I get a Pinterest image in full size?

Accepted Answer

You get the largest copy Pinterest still holds for that pin — usually around 736px on the long edge, and bigger whenever the uploader provided a larger file.

Question 24

Does the photo downloader add a watermark?

Accepted Answer

No. The file is the image Pinterest serves, byte for byte, with nothing added.

Question 25

What format is the saved image?

Accepted Answer

JPG in most cases; PNG or WebP when that is what Pinterest stores for that pin. We do not convert it.

Question 26

Can I download several photos from one board at once?

Accepted Answer

One pin per paste. There is no daily limit, so a whole board is just a matter of pasting its pins one by one.

Question 27

Why is my saved photo smaller than the one I see in the app?

Accepted Answer

Pinterest serves several sizes and the app may show a cached preview. PinSave asks for the largest public tier, which is often bigger than what the app displays.

Question 28

Is it okay to download a pin that isn't mine?

Accepted Answer

Downloading for personal use is generally fine. Republishing or using someone else's photo commercially needs their permission.

Question 29

Do pin.it short links work here too?

Accepted Answer

Yes — pin.it links are expanded automatically, so you can paste either the full pin URL or the short one.

Question 30

Can I save a still image from a video pin?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The cover image of a video pin downloads as a JPG; for the video itself use the video downloader.

Question 31

Do I get a high-quality image, or a compressed one?

Accepted Answer

The largest image file Pinterest serves for that pin, not a re-compressed copy. That is usually the full-size upload, but if Pinterest only stores a smaller rendition then that smaller file is the ceiling. The result card shows the pixel dimensions so you can check what you got.

Question 32

Can I download a Pinterest GIF as an actual .gif file?

Accepted Answer

No — and no other downloader can either. Pinterest transcodes animated pins to MP4 on upload, so the .gif no longer exists on their side. What we return is that same MP4, unchanged.

Question 33

Why does my animated pin download as an MP4?

Accepted Answer

Because that is the file Pinterest stores for it. Animated pins have been served as looping MP4 for years. The animation, the loop and the timing are identical — only the container changed.

Question 34

Does the animation keep its loop and timing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We pass the file Pinterest serves straight through without re-encoding, so the loop, duration and frame timing are exactly as the creator uploaded them.

Question 35

Is there a watermark on the GIF?

Accepted Answer

No. We add nothing to the file. The bytes you save are the bytes Pinterest serves from its own CDN.

Question 36

Do I need an account or an app to save an animated pin?

Accepted Answer

Neither. Paste a public pin or pin.it link and the download starts in your browser. No login, no install, no browser extension.

Question 37

The animated pin I want is private. Can I still save it?

Accepted Answer

No. Only public pins resolve. Secret boards and private content are not visible to a signed-out visitor, so no web-based tool can reach them.

Question 38

What app opens the MP4 I downloaded?

Accepted Answer

Any of them — VLC, QuickTime, Windows Media Player, or the phone’s own gallery. Looping is a playback setting, not a different file.

Question 39

How do I turn the MP4 back into a real .gif?

Accepted Answer

Use any video-to-GIF converter, or ffmpeg directly: ffmpeg -i clip.mp4 out.gif. Frames and timing are already correct, so the result matches the original.

Question 40

Can I download every animation on a board at once?

Accepted Answer

No, and that is on purpose. This tool resolves one pin per request; bulk scraping is what gets downloaders rate-limited and shut down, so we stay deliberately one-at-a-time.

Question 41

Does the MP4 lose quality compared with the original GIF?

Accepted Answer

No additional loss from us. Pinterest re-encoded it once when it was uploaded; we hand that result over without touching it again.

Question 42

Does the Pinterest Reel download include the audio?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The MP4 Pinterest serves already carries its audio track, and we pass the file through untouched, so the sound arrives exactly as it plays on Pinterest.

Question 43

Will the Reel stay vertical, or will it get cropped?

Accepted Answer

It stays exactly as uploaded. We do not crop, rotate or letterbox; the file keeps its original aspect ratio and orientation.

Question 44

Can I download a Reel in 1080p?

Accepted Answer

When Pinterest holds a 1080p version, yes — that is what you get. If the creator uploaded a smaller file, 1080p does not exist and no downloader can invent it.

Question 45

Is a Reel different from an Idea Pin?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A Reel is one vertical clip; an Idea Pin is a multi-slide pin that can mix video and images. Paste either link — we resolve whatever Pinterest exposes for it.

Question 46

Do I need the Pinterest app to copy a Reel link?

Accepted Answer

No. In the app you can tap Share then Copy Link, and on pinterest.com you can copy the URL from the address bar. Short pin.it links work as-is.

Question 47

Can I download a private Reel?

Accepted Answer

No. Private and secret content never renders for a signed-out visitor, so no web-based downloader can access it. Only public Reels resolve.

Question 48

Is a Reel’s audio ever removed or replaced?

Accepted Answer

No. Pinterest muxes the music or voice track into the MP4, and we hand that file back untouched.

Question 49

Can I save a Reel as audio only?

Accepted Answer

Not directly. Download the MP4 first, then extract the track with any audio editor or ffmpeg -i reel.mp4 -vn track.m4a.

Question 50

Why did my Reel come back in 540p?

Accepted Answer

Because that is the only rendition Pinterest holds for it. Scaling it up in our pipeline would add pixels, never detail.

Question 51

Are Reels faster to download than normal video pins?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes, simply because they are short. The file is smaller, so both the download and the save finish sooner.

Question 52

Why does it say the pin could not be found?

Accepted Answer

The link does not resolve to a public pin. That usually means a profile, board or search URL rather than a /pin/<id> link, a pin that has been deleted, or a pin sitting on a secret board. Copy the link again straight from the pin's Share menu and retry.

Question 53

Can I download from a private or secret board?

Accepted Answer

No, and neither can any other tool. Secret-board media is only served to the board owner's logged-in session. If you own the board, open the pin while logged in and save the file the normal way.

Question 54

The download worked before but fails now. What changed?

Accepted Answer

Most likely the pin was deleted or moved to a secret board by its owner. Re-copy the link from the live pin; if the pin no longer exists, there is nothing left to download.

Question 55

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Paste a pin link into the box at the top of this page in any browser — Safari, Chrome, Firefox. On iOS the file lands in Files → Downloads; on Android it lands in Downloads.

Question 56

Why is the download slow or stuck at 0%?

Accepted Answer

Large video pins take longer, and a slow connection to Pinterest's media host can stall the first byte. Wait a few seconds; if it does not move, reload the page and try once more with the blocker off.

Question 57

Do I need an account or an app?

Accepted Answer

Neither. There is no login, no sign-up and nothing to install. The page reads the public pin data and hands you the file Pinterest serves.

Question 58

Can I download Pinterest videos and images for free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There is no charge, no login and no app. The page reads the public pin data Pinterest already serves to any browser and gives you the file back.

Question 59

Does it work on iPhone, Android and desktop?

Accepted Answer

All three. Paste the link in Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge. On iOS files land in Files → Downloads; on Android in Downloads; on desktop wherever your browser saves.

Question 60

What quality do I get?

Accepted Answer

The highest resolution Pinterest itself serves for that pin. For images that is the largest JPG or PNG in their media data; for videos, every MP4 quality they store. We do not upscale or re-encode, so you get exactly what Pinterest hands to a browser.

Question 61

Can I download from a private board?

Accepted Answer

No — and no downloader can. Secret and archived board media is only served to the logged-in owner. Public pins on public boards download normally.

Question 62

Is downloading Pinterest content legal?

Accepted Answer

Downloading a pin for personal, offline viewing is generally fine, but the image or video still belongs to its creator. Do not re-upload it as your own or use it commercially without permission. See our disclaimer for the full picture.
