How to Copy a Pinterest Link

The link is the only thing you need to save a pin. Here is where it lives on desktop, iPhone and Android — and the one part of the URL that actually matters.

Not every Pinterest link has a file behind it

Pinterest URLs come in several shapes and only one of them points at a single file. A pin link looks like pinterest.com/pin/1234567890/ — the /pin/ segment plus a numeric ID. A board link, a profile link or a search link points at a list, not a file, so no downloader can pull media from it. When you copy a link, you want the one with /pin/ in it.

Short pin.it links work too — they are a redirect to the full /pin/<id> URL, and the downloader follows that redirect for you.

Where the copy-link option lives

Three platforms, three quick taps.

  1. 1

    On desktop

Open the pin so it fills the screen. The address bar already holds the link — copy it from there. Or click the three-dot menu next to the pin, choose Copy link, and it goes straight to your clipboard. Both give you the /pin/<id> URL you need.

  2. 2

    On iPhone or iPad

Open the pin in the Pinterest app, tap the share icon (the square with the arrow), then tap Copy Link. In Safari you can also long-press the address bar and tap Copy. Either way the pin link is now on your clipboard.

  3. 3

    On Android

Open the pin, tap the share icon, then Copy link. In Chrome, tap the address bar once and choose the copy icon. The clipboard now holds the pin link.
